Progress on Our New Book: Though we have yet to settle on a title, work is progressing well on our new novel, which is to be published by St. Martin's Press in 2009. We expect to finish the book by the end of this fall. This summer was productive, both in terms of writing and travel. Janice spent the month of May in Venice; since our new novel is set in Venice and the Veneto countryside (specifically an area outside of Padua called the Euganean Hills) in the summer following World War II, Janice conducted much useful research there in between drinking Prosecco, eating gelato, taking Italian lessons, and wandering the city she loves so dearly. This winter promises comments from our editor and copyeditor on the final draft and a short break before embarking on our third novel. In sum, it is a story of family, love, honor, and betrayal. A Canadian woman married to a missing Italian resistance fighter meets an American soldier with a secret. It’s been a fascinating story to research because we’ve had to delve into history that is not very well known in North America, much of it either not translated into English or still in oral form.
